Anchor desk changes at WISN-TV for McKee, Garbaciak, Newton

| Posted on July 31, 2013

Whenever you move a piece on a game board, you change the playing field.

So it is with the shuffling of news anchors at WISN-TV (Channel 12).

As previously noted, 5 p.m. anchor and evening reporter Jason Newton will be moving to "12 News This Morning" newscast, joining Patrick Paolantonio, Marianne Lyles, Sally Severson and Matt Saleme.

Today, WISN announced Craig McKee, 6 and 10 p.m. co-anchor with Kathy Mykleby, also will replace Newton as co-anchor of the 5 p.m. newscast with Toya Washington.

And the station announced an expanded role for local TV news veteran Joyce Garbaciak, who will return to the anchor desk on Sundays starting in September.

She will co-anchor the Sunday 10 p.m. newscast with new weekend anchor Toni Valliere, who joins the station Aug. 19, and new meteorologist Chris Gloninger.

Garbaciak joined WISN as a special correspondent in 2006 after 17 years as a reporter and anchor at WITI-TV (Channel 6).

And Portia Young will work as weekend morning anchor and a reporter during the week.

Mykleby should take a gander at herself in a mirror and see that she is almost as worn-out as Myra Sanchick. They both should take their Social Security and run with it.

Nothing like focusing on what's important. Both women you mention are outstanding, experienced reporters. There are more than a few weather-beaten men anchoring and reporting. Why no mention of them?

Glad to see Joyce Garbaciak take a regular shift at the anchor desk. I always appreciated when she did fill-in shifts in the past. She's been one of my favorite Milwaukee-area anchors since the TV6 days.

Way to perpetuate "ageism" Kilgore... I personally prefer to see the older, more experienced anchors on TV... not some ditzy cute young thing... it's about the skills... or at least that's what it SHOULD be about!! Let me guess... you're a middle-aged man, right??!!
